Greeting Riccardo Chailly

Dear friends of the Gewandhaus Orchestra,

As 19th Gewandhauskapellmeister in the succession of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy I am delighted that on the occasion of this year's tour to the United States of America we will be able to establish the "American Friends of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig".
Always at the service of great music, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, founded in 1743 by Leipzig merchants, inspires with a unique sound and world-class quality, enjoying a reputation as one of the finest symphony orchestras in the world.
What we love most is making music - on the highest possible level. Travelling throughout the world and presenting our excellent repertoire means two things to us: Bringing a message to the audience as well as broadening our mind.
It is always a pleasure to come to the U.S. - the kindness, openness and interest the orchestra and our work is met with make us feel welcome and like part of a great family.
Establishing the „American Friends of the Gewandhaus Orchestra" will help us to secure long-term funds to create a stronger U.S. presence for the Gewandhaus Orchestra in the future, maintaining our values of excellence, innovation and independence. By strengthening the cooperation with many renowned concert halls the „American Friends" will further and exciting musical and cultural exchange between the United States of American and the city of Leipzig.
Let yourself be inspired by the Gewandhaus Orchestra, support us in our goal and sponsor the wonderful work - many thanks!

Riccardo Chailly
