The Management Symphony
Since 1999, top executives from all over Germany have been meeting for a few days each year to form "The Management Symphony" (TMS).It started with a vision - managers from the business community, institutions and politics who play an instrument would come together in an orchestra under an outstanding conductor to rehearse and give a concert. The idea met with spontaneous enthusiasm. Since then, a symphony orchestra of 80 players has gathered once a year to rehearse and perform challenging symphonic literature.
Management of the workshop is in the hands of the boss at the Gewandhaus. Former Gewandhaus Music Director Herbert Blomstedt supported and led the project from the very beginning. The current Gewandhaus Music Director, Riccardo Chailly, conducted the Management Symphony rehearsals and concert in 2007. Gewandhaus Orchestra musicians rehearse with the ambitious amateurs in their respective sections.
Proceeds from the workshop concert benefit the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School in Leipzig.
The Management Symphony is a private, non-commercial initiative of Peter Gartiser and Nicolaus Steenken in Munich. The Orchesterstiftung der deutschen Wirtschaft (Orchestra Foundation of German Business), which is devoted to acquiring high-quality instruments for leading orchestras, grew out of TMA in 2002.
